rectangle clay chevron earrings
Step 1 |
Slice a piece of black, white, Pacific Blue, Cherry Red and Tangerine clay from each block. |
Step 2 |
Knead and condition until moldable. |
Step 3 |
Add a little black clay to your conditioned Pacific Blue clay to make navy. |
Step 4 |
Roll out each color, smooth and even as possible, to about 1/8" [0.3 cm] thick. |
Step 5 |
Use the super slicer to cut rectangles: |
Step 6 |
Use a smoothing tool to smooth out the sides. |
Step 7 |
Use the piercing tool to create a hole in the center towards the top of the rectangle. |
Step 8 |
Bake for 30 minutes at 230°F (110°C). Remove from oven and set aside to cool. |
Step 9 |
Thread an eye pin through the holes in the clay rectangles in the following chevron pattern: white, Tangerine, Cherry Red, navy, Cherry Red, Tangerine and white. |
Step 10 |
Make a loop at the end of the eye pin. TIP: To form a simple wire loop, first bend the wire to a 90° angle just past the last added clay rectangle. Trim wire to 3/8"-½" [0.3 cm - 1.3 cm] from the bend. Grasp the end of the eye pin wire between the jaws of a pair of round nose pliers. Rotate the pliers toward you, keeping a firm grip on the wire until a small loop is formed. |
Step 11 |
Trim two more eye pins and add a loop to the end of each so it is the same length as the one with clay rectangles. |
Step 12 |
Carefully open one end and slide it through the loop on one side of the clay rectangles then close the loop. Repeat on the other side. |
Step 13 |
Use a jump ring connect the loops on the loose ends of the eye pins to create a triangle with the rectangle clays pieces dangling across the bottom. Before you close the jump ring, add a fishhook ear wire. TIP: To open and close a jump ring, simply grasp the jump ring on both sides with chain nose pliers and twist the ring open, from side-to-side. Never pull the jump ring which can cause distortion. |
Step 14 |
Repeat Steps 9-13 for a second earring. Share your project photos with #MakeItWithMichaels |
