mud cloth inspired framed mat

Inspired by the textile trend of mud cloth, you can update a simple mat and frame with one of the many patterns found in this African artform.
Step 1

Click here to download and print the pattern.

Step 2

Remove the mat from the frame, then transfer the pattern onto the mat using the graphite transfer paper, or design your own pattern.

Step 3

Now, use a ruler to draw over the transferred pattern with the black Sharpie® marker.

Step 4

Let the mat dry for about five minutes, then erase any lines or graphite that may have transferred to the mat.

Step 5

Insert a photo (or drawing) into the mat, then insert the mat back into the frame.
