Step 1

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
- Finished Circumference: About 17½" [44.5 cm]. Will stretch to fit a range of sizes
- Finished Length: About 8" [20.5 cm]
GAUGE: 10 sts = about 4" [10 cm] over Rnd 1 of pattern; be sure to check your gauge
NOTES:
- Hat is worked in one piece and then seamed.
- Pom-pom is tied to the top of the finished hat.
HAT:
Loosely cast on 44 sts.
Row 1: *K1, p1; repeat from * to end of row.
Rep Row 1 until piece measures about 7 in. (18 cm) from beginning.
Shape Crown (Top of Hat)
Next Row (Right Side): K2tog across the row – you’ll have 22 sts.
Next Row: P2tog across the row – you’ll have 11 sts.
Next Row: Knit the first st, then k2tog to end of row – you’ll have 6 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread yarn tail into blunt needle, then draw through remaining 6 sts, and pull to close the top of hat.
Knot securely, then sew sides of piece together to make the hat.
FINISHING:
Following package directions, make a large pom-pom and tie to top of hat.
Weave in yarn ends.
