Print Project

Step 1

ADULT: Cut or break the sticks so they are all the same length. Make sure the sticks are sturdy enough to make the weaving frame.

Step 2

Hold two sticks together at a 90° angle to make the first corner. Wrap yarn around and in between the intersection of the sticks to hold the corner securely. Tie a knot and trim off the excess yarn. Repeat this for all four corners.
TIP: It may be helpful to have one person help hold the sticks in place while another person wraps the yarn securely around the corners.

Step 3

Now wrap your warp onto the frame, which are the strings that go up and down in the frame for weaving. To do this, tie one yarn end to the top left of the frame, then pull it down and around the bottom of the frame, then back up and around the top of the frame. Continue this pattern until the frame is full with vertical strings. Tie the end off securely in a knot.

Step 4

Gather items from your craft supplies and nature for an interesting mix of textures to weave.
TIP: Items such as chenille pipe cleaners, sticks, leaves, stems and vines are great examples of things that work perfectly for this project!

Step 5

Add your first item by weave over and under the strings across the frame.

Step 6

For the next row, weave your item under then over as you work across the strings.

Step 7

Fill the frame with your items until it's as full as you like!
