kids robot halloween costume
Step 1 |
First, click here to download and print the diagram. Use as a guide while to create this costume. |
Step 2 |
Find a square box that fits the head and looks proportionate for your robot. Seal the box, then on one of the solid sides, measure 1½" [3.8 cm] in from all four sides and draw a square. Cut out the square with an X-ACTO® knife. This will be the front of the robot’s head. |
Step 3 |
On the bottom of the box, cut out a large circle (large enough for head to fit through) with your X-ACTO® knife. |
Step 4 |
Paint the box blue. Let dry and add additional coats if needed. Set aside. |
Step 5 |
To make the chest piece, measure across the chest and add 2" [5 cm]. Follow the diagram (A) for guidance. Draw the centre chest piece, then a 4" [10.1 cm] piece on either side. You can make the chest piece as long as needed. Cut around the outside of the entire piece, then bend the two 4" [10.1 cm] pieces back. Poke holes in the side pieces as indicated by the black dots on the diagram. This is where you will insert the ribbon and tie the chest piece on to the child. |
Step 6 |
Paint the entire chest piece blue. Let dry and add additional coats if needed. Set aside. |
Step 7 |
Use the circle punch to punch out circles from the Silver and black glitter foam. Adhere them across the top of the headpiece. Add additional details to the head pieces using glitter foam. |
Step 8 |
Poke two tiny holes in the top for antenna, then add a black chenille pipe cleaner in either hole. Turn the end under to hold it in place. |
Step 9 |
Wrap a Silver chenille pipe cleaner around a pencil, then slide it off and stretch it slightly. Twist this onto the black chenille pipe cleaners so that it runs from one to the other. |
Step 10 |
Decorate the chest piece using the black and Silver glitter foam and additional foam shapes. |
Step 11 |
To make the arm covers, measure the arm width and add 1" [2.5 cm]. Measure the length of the arm from the fingertips to just below the elbow. This is the length you will need for the arm cover, then add 2" [5 cm] to either side (see diagram B). Make holes where indicated to insert ribbon to tie onto the child's arm. Bend the cardboard at the wrist so that the r wrist can move within in the arm pieces. |
Step 12 |
Paint the arm pieces blue. Let dry and add additional coats if needed. |
Step 13 |
Decorate the arm pieces using the black and Silver glitter foam and additional foam shapes. |
Step 14 |
Insert ribbon into the holes when the costume is complete to secure it in place when wearing. |
