Create your own hammered metal element; then dangle a pearl from the bottom for an elegant pair of earrings.

Print Project

Step 1

First, hammer your metal element. Tape your metal blanks to a steel block, then with the ball peen hammer attachment, strike the black over and over until you get your desired look. Remove the tape and set your hammered metal connectors aside.

Step 2

Make two pearl dangles.
TIP: To do this, slide a pearl bead onto a headpin. Bend the wire of the headpin in a 90° angle just above the bead. Grasp the eye pin wire, about 3/8"-½" [0.3 cm-1.3 cm] from the bend, between the jaws of your round nose pliers. Rotate the pliers toward you, keeping a firm grip on the wire, until a small loop is formed. Trim excess wire.

Step 3

Attach each pearl dangle to the bottom of your hammered connectors with a jump ring.
TIP: To open and close a jump ring, simply grasp the jump ring on both sides with chain nose pliers and twist the ring open, from side-to-side. Never pull the jump ring which can cause distortion.

Step 4

Carefully open the loop at the bottom of a fishhook ear wire, slide through the hole at the top of your hammered connector, then close the loop. Repeat for a second earring.
