grandpa's office leather sign
Step 1 |
First, click here for the design in Cricut® Design Space™. |
Step 2 |
If needed, size the design to fit your wood plaque. |
Step 3 |
Now, click ‘Make It’ in the upper right corner and then click ‘Continue’ in the lower right corner of the next screen. |
Step 4 |
Line the back of your leather with transfer tape, then place it on your strong grip cutting mat. Add masking tape around the perimeter of the leather for an extra secure hold. |
Step 5 |
Select ‘Tooling Leather – 4-5 oz. (1.6 mm)’ for your material, install your deep blade housing into clamp B and add your pen to ‘clamp A’. Follow the prompts to draw on and cut out your design. Once the machine has finished cutting, gently peel the material away from your mat. Remove and discard transfer tape. |
Step 6 |
Place a sheet of vinyl, grid-side down, onto your cutting mat and load it into your Cricut® machine. Select ‘Vinyl’ as your material, install your fine blade housing into clamp B and follow the prompts to cut out your design. Once the machine has finished cutting, gently peel the vinyl away from your mat. |
Step 7 |
Use scissors to cut your design away from the vinyl sheet. Next, use your weeder tool to remove the round section around the letters in your design as well as the tool shapes. The letters, the two ring borders and circle in the middle should be left on the carrier sheet. |
Step 8 |
Cut a piece of transfer tape to fit over the design. Peel the tape from the backer paper, place it over the vinyl and burnish. Now, slowly remove the backer paper from the design so the vinyl is stuck to the tape. |
Step 9 |
Align the vinyl on the transfer tape with the pen markings on your leather and press down onto the leather. Burnish over the design and slowly remove the transfer tape so the vinyl is now transferred to the leather. |
Step 10 |
Burnish the stencil vinyl to make sure it has a secure bond with the leather. |
Step 11 |
Fill in the design with your Scorch marker. Let dry. |
Step 12 |
Peel the vinyl from your leather. |
Step 13 |
Heat your EasyPress™ to 400°F [204.4°C]. Place your leather piece on top of your mat and then place a piece parchment paper over the leather. Heat for about 30 seconds. Let cool. |
Step 14 |
Run a fair amount of wood glue around the outside perimeter on the back of your leather piece and all around the back; then press to the middle of your wood plaque. |
Step 15 |
Turn it over so the leather is facing your working surface and place a heavy book (or heavy object) on top of the back until the glue is dry. |
