INSTRUCTIONS:
FRONT:
Ch 2. Row 1: Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook – you’ll have 2 sc in this row. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in each of the 2 sts – you’ll have 4 sc. Row 3: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in last st – 6 sc. Row 4: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st – 8 sc. Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Rep Rows 4 and 5 until piece measures about 12 in. (30.5 cm) from beg, end with a Row 5 as the last row you work.
Note: You’ll now shape two lobes, one at a time. Before beginning, count the stitches in the last row you worked. You’ll work each lobe over one half of that number of stitches.
First Lobe
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in each st until you have worked over one half of the sts of the last row you worked; leave remaining half of the sts unworked for the second lobe. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in first st, sc2tog, sc in each st to last 3 sts, sc2tog, sc in last st – 2 sts decreased. Rep Rows 2 and 3 until you have just 6 sts remaining. Fasten off.
Second Lobe
Join yarn with a slip st in the first unworked st following the first lobe. Row 1: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining slip st, sc in each st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st (of second lobe only) across. Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in first st, sc2tog, sc in each st to last 3 sts, sc2tog, sc in last st – 2 sts decreased. Rep Rows 2 and 3 until you have just 6 sts remaining. Fasten off.
BACK:
Make same as front.
SIDE GUSSET:
Ch 8. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 7 sc. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Rep Row 2 until gusset measures about same length as outside edge of front. Being careful not to twist, bring first row of gusset to meet last row, and slip st together to make a ring. Fasten off.
FINISHING:
Beginning at lower point of heart, sew one long side edge of gusset all the way around outside edge of front. Line up the back to match the Front, then sew remaining long edge of gusset around outside edge of back, leaving an opening large enough to turn pillow right side out. Turn pillow right side out, stuff, then finish sewing closed. Thread any exposed yarn ends one at a time into blunt needle, then draw to inside of pillow. |
