kids hula hoop woven art
Step 1 |
Lay a child’s t-shirt flat and cut 1" [2.54 cm] strips across the torso section making loops. Continue cutting strips until you reach the arm area of the shirt. Set aside and repeat with a second shirt. |
Step 2 |
Slide four tubes of each t-shirt onto the hula hoop making them an even distance apart. |
Step 3 |
To use t-shirts as yarn or strings, cut apart the tubes and pull the t-shirt strip so it turns into a string. Do this on all the remaining pre-cut t-shirt tubes. Set aside for weaving. |
Step 4 |
Begin by tying one end of a t-shirt string to a string in the middle where they intersect. Weave under and over the strings in the middle until you have an area that is approximately 8" [20.32 cm] in diameter. |
Step 5 |
Now, change the weaving slightly by working over and then through the middle of the next string, then over and through the middle of the next string and keep repeating. When you add a t-shirt, change your pattern and go over the string which you had gone through and through the string you had gone over. Keep alternating this weaving pattern until you have a wall hanging you love, then tie the last string to one of the strings on the hula hoop. |
