This is what gives chalk paint a bad name. If this was the first chalk paint I had ever used, I guarantee you that I wouldn’t try chalk again. I like Dixie Belle for furniture that I’ve done, but I would like to use a less expensive option for general crafts. I normally use Waverly chalk paint from Walmart. They were out so I picked this up at Michaels. Not again! It does not have the coverage as the before mentioned brands. Cleanup is also very easy with the other brands. Cleanup using the Martha product is awful.

Horrible smell
These paints have the worst smell to them. If you could imagine 3 month old rotten raw chicken....that is what it smells like....I could not even get to the point of dipping my brush in. Worst smell I have ever smelt!!

Beware of the little to no prep suggestion & PINK
I lightly sanded my chair before painting a swatch. So glad I did this before proceeding. Like many others have stated, I got sucked in by the vintage red that turns out to be a funky salmon pink. But the good/bad news is that this paint didn't stick AT all to the sample area I painted. I was able to scrub it off after two days of drying. Scrape a fingernail and just came off like nothing, exposing the original finish. The lightest sanding and a damp rag took it all off. What a mess it would have been had I painted the the whole chair. If you use this paint over an existing finish you WILL have to sand and or prime.

Wrong colour
I also had a problem with the colour. I bought what was supposed to be ivory and it dried very yellow. Extremely disappointed!
