Step 1

MEASUREMENTS: Approx 18½” [47 cm] wide at top x 11½” [29 cm] deep.
GAUGE: 14 sc and 14 rows = 4” [10 cm] with larger hook and 2 strands held together.
18 sc and 20 rows = 4” [10 cm] with smaller hook and single strand.
SPECIAL STITCH EXPLANATION: DblSpk = Double Spike: Yoh and draw up a loop in same sp as 3rd st to right 2 rows below. Yoh and draw up a loop in same sp as next st 3 rows below. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook.
NOTE: Join all rnds with sl st to first sc.

Step 2

INSTRUCTIONS:
Beg at base, with larger hook and 2 strands held together, ch 32.
Rnd 1: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each of next 29 ch. 3 sc in last ch. Working across opposite side of foundation ch, 1 sc in each of next 29 ch­. Join. 64 sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1. *3 sc in next sc. 1 sc in next sc. 3 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 29 sc. Rep from * around. Join. 72 sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 1. *1 sc in next sc. 3 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 3 sc. 3 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 30 sc. Rep from * around. Join. 80 sc.
Rnd 4: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 2 sc. 3 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 5 sc. 3 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 31 sc. Rep from * around. Join. 88 sc.
Rnd 5: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 3 sc. 3 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 7 sc. 3 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 32 sc. Rep from * around. Join. 96 sc.
Cut 1 strand and proceed as follows with single strand and smaller hook:
Rnd 1: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 3 sc. 2 sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join. 120 sc.
Rnds 2 to 5: 1 sc in each sc around. Join.
Proceed in Shifting Chevrons St Pat as Follows:
Rnd 1: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of first 3 sts. DblSpk. Skip next st (behind DblSpk just worked). Rep from * around. Join.
Rnd 2: Ch 1. DblSpk. Skip next st (behind DblSpk just worked). 1 sc in each of next 3 sts. *DblSpk. Skip next st (behind DblSpk just worked). 1 sc in each of next 3 sts. Rep from * around. Join.
Rnd 3: Ch 1. *1 sc in next st. DblSpk. Skip next st (behind DblSpk just worked).1 sc in each of next 2 sts. Rep from * around. Join.
Rnd 4: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 2 sts. DblSpk. Skip next st (behind DblSpk just worked).1 sc in next st. Rep from * around. Join.
These 4 rnds form Shifting Chevrons Pat. Rep Rnds 1 tp 4 once more
Next Rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st around. Join.
Next Rnd: Ch 1. *2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 9 sc. Rep from * around. 132 sts.
Work 8 rnds in Shifting Chevrons Pat.
Next Rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st around. Join.
Next Rnd: Ch 1. *2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 10 sc. Rep from * around. 144 sts.
Work 8 rnds in Shifting Chevrons Pat.
Next Rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st around. Join.
Next Rnd: Ch 1. *2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 11 sc. Rep from * around. 156 sts.
Work 8 rnds in Shifting Chevrons Pat.
Next Rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st around. Join.
Next Rnd: Ch 1. *2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 12 sc. Rep from * around. 168 sts.
Work 8 rnds in Shifting Chevrons Pat.
Next 5 Rnds: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st around. Join.
Fasten off.
STRAPS (make 2).
With larger hook and 2 strands held tog, ch 8.
Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of chain. 7 sc. Turn.
Rows 2 to 4: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Row 5: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Do not turn.
Beg working rnds in a continuous spiral.  Do not join at end of rnds. Place marker to indicate beg of rnd and move marker each subsequent rnd.
Next Rnd: 1 sc in each sc around.
Rep last rnd until Strap from beg measures 25” [63.5 cm]. Turn at end of last rnd. Beg working in rows as follows:
Next Row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 7 sc. Turn.
Rep last row 4 times more. Fasten off.
Sew Straps to top edge of Bag as seen in photo.
