train and trees christmas scene
Step 1 |
First, make your trains cars. Cut two pieces of construction paper to 5" x 9" [12.7 cm x 22.9 cm]. |
Step 2 |
Measure and mark 2½" [6.4 cm], 1½" [3.8 cm], 2½" [6.4 cm] and 1½" [3.8 cm] from the bottom edge along the 9" [22.9 cm] side. |
Step 3 |
Now, fold each paper on the marks. Run your glue stick along the 1" [2.5 cm] excess at the end and use it to close the paper boxes, which are the cars of your train. |
Step 4 |
For the locomotive, cut a piece of construction paper to 4" x 11" [10.2 cm x 28 cm]. |
Step 5 |
Measure and mark 3½" [8.9 cm], 1½" [3.8 cm], 3½" [8.9 cm] and 1½" [3.8 cm] from the bottom edge along the 9" [22.9 cm] side. |
Step 6 |
Fold and glue as you did in Step 3; then set aside. |
Step 7 |
Cut a 3" x 9" [7.7 cm x 22.9 cm] piece from the excess paper from Step 4. |
Step 8 |
Measure and mark 2½" [6.4 cm], 1½" [3.8 cm], 2½" [6.4 cm] and 1½" [3.8 cm] from the bottom edge along the 9" [22.9 cm] side. |
Step 9 |
Again, fold and glue as you did in Step 3. |
Step 10 |
On one of the 2½" [6.4 cm] sides, cut ½" [1.3 cm] slits along the fold in each corner. Fold the sides inward to create flaps. Add glue from your glue stick on the outside of the flaps and attach to side of the rectangle piece of the locomotive set aside in Step 6. Make sure the large piece of the locomotive is laying with the open side pointing up. |
Step 11 |
Cut a 5" x 1¼" [12.7 cm x 3.2 cm]. Roll into a cylinder and glue the ends together, overlapped a little. |
Step 12 |
Cut ½" [1.3 cm] slits around the bottom edge of one side of the cylinder. Fold the flaps inward, add glue to the flaps and attach to the top of the front piece of the locomotive. |
Step 13 |
Use foam stickers to create wheels and windows on your train. |
Step 14 |
To make your fuzzy trees, measure 12" [30.5 cm] of a fuzzy craft stem. |
Step 15 |
ADULT: Use flush cutters to the stem piece. |
Step 16 |
Wind the stem piece around a couple of fingers, slide off and shape your coiled tree as shown. |
Step 17 |
Repeat Steps 14-16 for two more trees and varying sizes. |
