mosaic clay earrings
Step 1 |
Slice a piece of clay from each block. |
Step 2 |
Knead and condition until mouldable. |
Step 3 |
Add a little black to the Apple Green to make an olive and black to Pacific Blue to get navy. |
Step 4 |
For the mosaic pieces, roll the desired clay into individual snake-like shapes, then use your super slicer to cut small, uneven shape pieces. |
Step 5 |
Bake for 30 minutes at 230°F (110°C). Remove from oven and set aside to cool. |
Step 6 |
Use an acrylic roller (or a clay machine) to roll the olive clay out until it is even and a little less than ¼" [0.64 cm] thick. Cut two shapes with a semi-oval cutter. Set aside. |
Step 7 |
Use a small stylus tool to create a hole in the bottom, flat centre semi-circle shapes. |
Step 8 |
Use an acrylic roller (or a clay machine) to roll the ivory leather clay out until it is even and a little less than ¼" [0.64 cm] thick. Cut two shapes with an oval cutter. Set aside. |
Step 9 |
Use a small stylus tool to create a hole in the top and bottom of the ivory oval shapes. |
Step 10 |
Now, add baked mosaic pieces to the ivory oval shapes. Push them into the clay but allow them to remain raised a little higher than the surface of the ivory ovals. |
Step 11 |
Bake the ivory ovals and olive semi-ovals for 30 minutes at 230°F (110°C). Remove from oven and set aside to cool. |
Step 12 |
Add a jump ring to the top hole on an ivory oval and the bottom hole of an olive semi-oval connecting them together; then close the jump ring. |
Step 13 |
To make a bead dangle, slide a bead onto a headpin and form a simple loop at the top of a bead. Before you close the loop, slide it onto the bottom hole of a mosaic oval shape then close the loop completely. |
Step 14 |
Glue an ear post to the back of an olive semi-oval and let dry. |
Step 15 |
Repeat Steps 12-14 for a second, matching earring. |
