Step 1

Paint an entire canvas board with one background colour. Let dry.

Step 2

Draw a fish (or other shape/drawing) with Elmer's® glue.

Step 3

Sprinkle the wet glue generously with salt. Be sure to cover every bit of glue!

Step 4

Tip the canvas over a trash can to pour off the excess salt.

Step 5

Add water to your watercolours.
TIP: Make sure you mix in lots of water. Your paint needs to be very watery, so that when it touches the salt, the salt will absorb the colour from your brush.

Step 6

Dip your paintbrush into the watery paint, then lightly touch the end of it to the salt. The salt will wick the liquid and spread the colour into the salt/glue. Keep adding paint in different colours, until the entire salt and glue drawing is coloured with watercolours. Set aside for several hours to dry.
