yarn-dipped tassel banner
Step 1 |
Step 1 Cut pieces of yarn about 16" long. You will need to cut several for each tassel. Begin by cutting twelve, fold them in half to check the fullness of your tassel. The size of the tassel will depend on the kind of yarn you choose, and the amount of strings. Once you have the tassel To your liking, did use it as a guide for each tassel. TIP: When beginning this project, determine how many tassels you want in your garland (6-10 is recommended). |
Step 2 |
Step 2 To make the cool effect of dying half the tassel you will need to have all your white yarn strands cut. Separate them in two piles, one for red and one for blue dye. |
Step 3 |
Step 3 Mix some of the red dye in a bowl of water. While wearing gloves, hold the center of one pile. Dip the ends into the dye until saturated. Place them on a piece of plastic wrap covered with a paper towel and let them dry. TIP: It will take 24-48 hours to completely dry depending on the weather and temperature. |
Step 4 |
Step 4 Repeat Step 3 for the second white yarn pile with blue dye. |
Step 5 |
Step 5 Now, assemble the garland. Cut a long piece of yarn to use as the garland base. Make sure to allow some length on the sides for tying. |
Step 6 |
Step 6 To make a tassel, mix all your yarn types and fold them over the yarn base. Cut another piece of yarn 12" long and wrap it around the portion of the tassel that is the closest to the base. Wrap 3-5 times. Tie a double knot to secure it and cut off any excess yarn. Repeat for each tassel. |
Step 7 |
Step 7 Once you are finished building the tassel garland you can slide them along the base to adjust the distance between each tassel. Share your project photos with #MakeItWithMichaels |
