Print Project

Step 1

First, click here to download and print a pictorial diagram.

Step 2

Cut eight paper strips to 1" x 12" [2.5 cm x 30.5 cm].
TIP: Use masking tape and clothespins to hold down the paper strips while weaving.

Step 3

Find the middle of two paper strips and place them in a crisscross pattern on a flat surface. See A in the pictorial diagram.

Step 4

Place three paper strips, side by side, and weave them through the one strip. See B in the pictorial diagram.

Step 5

Take three more strips, weave them through to form a square bottom base. Make sure the weave is tight and align up as shown in reference C.

Step 6

Using a pencil, draw lines to make the actual square bottom base. See D in the pictorial diagram.

Step 7

Fold the woven strips up along the drawn lines from Step 6. See E in the pictorial diagram.

Step 8

Fold up the remaining drawn lines. See F in the pictorial diagram.

Step 9

Turn over the woven piece. See G in the pictorial diagram.

Step 10

Start weaving over and under with any two of the middle strips to make the first corner of the square basket. Bring them together to make a 90° corner. See H in the pictorial diagram.

Step 11

Continue weaving with the rest of the paper strips to make the other three corners.

Step 12

Once the corners are formed, continue weaving the paper strips until all the paper strips have been woven. See I in the pictorial diagram.

Step 13

Stand the woven basket up and fold the ends of the paper strips inside the basket on each side. See J in the pictorial diagram.

Step 14

Use a tape runner to adhere the folded flaps to the inside of the woven basket. See K in the pictorial diagram.
