Rated 5 out of 5 by from Using Artisan water mixable in Plein Air I switched to Windsor and Newton Artison Water Mixable Oils two months ago, and am so happy I did. They require only water rather than solvents. Carrying one less thing for plein air makes a difference in my pack . I can paint in a monochrome value study, let it quickly dry, and over lay a full palette of color mixes. I use the solvent free gel, safflower oil as a glaze with transparent artisan colors to tone my painting, create chiaroscuro or layer color. It makes my plein air very possible in less time than I used to spend with full bodied oils.
