Watercolor Pencil Set by Artist's Loft™ is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 86.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice starter set A few things to note: these aren't going to work like regular color pencils. The "lead," which is pigment, is naturally soft and prone to crumbling, which can happen even with higher quality pencils. Start with gentle pressure and build up slowly as you get used to using them. You can use them dry to sketch and then use water over them, but if you press too hard it can be more difficult to get the pigment to dissolve, which you may want if you want some of the sketch still visible. Otherwise, you can apply the pencil to pre-wetted paper or dip the pencil tip in water. Anyways, these aren't going to blow you away, which is why they're a level one set, but they're good for learning the medium and practice. Watercolor pencils can be an expensive investment when you don't even know if you'll like them yet and these are fairly reasonable, especially if you have a coupon or voucher on hand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lead is weak Lead breaks super easily. Like inside the pencil before you even sharpen or draw with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from These work if you know what you are doing I bought these on a whim because I wanted a cheap set of watercolor pencils to use in a pinch for backgrounds on my coloring pages to further my more expensive media sets. The key for water-soluble media is to move from light to dark and "push" into the dark, NOT the other way around. When you do that and dab your brush before going back into light so you don't over saturate these work really well to protect your gradient or your blend. They are VERY pigmented and the 24 set has lights and darks for every major color on the spectrum. Lots of earth tones and greys for shading. These are just your basic cheap watercolors and they work just fine if you follow good watercolor technique.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun to Use! I really like using these pencils, they are richly pigmented and it's easy to blend them once the water is applied. I've been having fun with them!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Huge disappointment I realize these aren't supposed to be professional quality, but I have an old set of Crayola watercolor pencils from the 90's that transfer to paper AND dissolve in water better than these. I'm going to have to try dipping the pencil tips in water before drawing with them as another reviewer recommended. One thing to note — the store had two versions of the 24 pack - one included a brush (this is likely the older version since it was way behind the other version and was collecting dust) and the other had no brush. I purchased the one with the brush — I'm not sure if the quality of the pencils are different between these versions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful colors I was considering buying watercolor pencils. Then I saw that Michaels had these on sale. I'm still learning how to use them. But I'm enjoying the adventure of creativity.
