tiered wood shape earrings

Make super easy and trendy earrings with pre-cut wood shapes!
Step 1

First, tape off the bottom half of a wood circle disk and paint the top half with Sliver Gray paint. Set aside to dry, then remove the tape.

Step 2

Add another piece of tape a little below the gray line. Add another piece across the edge of the gray line. Paint the space between tapes with Classic Gold paint. Let dry. Add a second coat and let dry. Remove tape.

Step 3

Turn your disk around and repeat Steps 1-2 on the other side. Make sure to paint the sides as well.

Step 4

Punch a second hole in your wood shape with punch pliers. Use a bead reamer to sand (or smooth) the inside of the hole.

Step 5
Make a bead drop with your rectangle howlite stone.
TIP: To do this:
  • Slide a stone onto a headpin.
  • Bend the wire of the headpin in a 90° angle just above the bead.
  • Grasp the headpin wire, about 3/8"-½" [0.3 cm-1.3 cm] from the bend, between the jaws of your round nose pliers.
  • Rotate the pliers toward you, keeping a firm grip on the wire, until a small loop is formed. Trim excess wire.
Step 6
Make a bead link with your painted wood disk.
TIP: To do this:
  • Slide your wood disk onto an eye pin.
  • Bend the wire of the eye pin in a 90° angle just above the disk.
  • Grasp the eye pin wire, about 3/8"-½" [0.3 cm-1.3 cm] from the disk, between the jaws of your round nose pliers.
  • Rotate the pliers toward you, keeping a firm grip on the wire, until a small loop is formed. Trim excess wire.
Step 7

Carefully open the loop at the bottom, unfinished side of your disk, link it to the top of your howlite stone and close the loop.

Step 8

Attach the linked pieces of your earring to your wood shape with a jump ring.
TIP: To open and close a jump ring, simply grasp the jump ring on both sides with chain nose pliers and twist the ring open, from side-to-side. Never pull the jump ring which can cause distortion.

Step 9

Attach a fishhook ear wire to the top of your wood shape with a jump ring.

Step 10

Repeat Step 1-9 for a second earring.
