Sculptors turn to this clay because it allows them to carve, tool and detail with none of the blurring and bending found in softer polymer clays. The extra-firm sculpting clay is grey in colour, making it easy for both sculptors and photographers to see even the tiniest detail and, when necessary, catch it on film. After curing in the oven, this clay can be sanded, drilled, carved and painted with water-based acrylic paint.
Details:
Bake at 275°F (130°C) 15 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness. Do not exceed the temperature or recommended baking time.
Details:
- Grey
- 1 lb. (454 g)
- Perfect texture for sculpting fine details
- Shatter and chip resistant
- Professional quality oven-bake clay
Bake at 275°F (130°C) 15 minutes per 1/4" (6 mm) thickness. Do not exceed the temperature or recommended baking time.

Great Sculpting Clay
The Sculpey Firm was exactly what I needed for an armatured horse scupture. The firm clay held the muscle tone and was firm enough to use tools for details. Cut the clay in the shapes of muscles and tendons and lay them upon the armature. Softer clays do not perform well using this method.

Polymers clay
If you havent worked with polymers clay hefore, it is hard to work with but it took quite a bit of time to get used to.

Michaels isnt good at keeping fresh clay
Sculpey clay is great, but every time I get it at Michaels, its always so old and just breaks apart and...just not good. I wish they would keep their stock fresh

Still learning how to use this medium
Different than bisque fire clay. Oven bake clay is new to me. Trial an error and a lot of exploring others encounter with this stuff. This firm clay is a little less malleable that the "regular oven bake clay". Could be a challenge to those who's hands are frail, but on the other hand, it could develop strength and agility in the hands.

The Firm clay is much softer than it used to be.
Sculpey seems to have changed the formula of Sculpey Firm as it is no longer as firm as it once was. It's still harder than the Original, but it doesn't live up to the "Firm" moniker, or my sculpting needs. I may need to find an alternative if this is a permanent change.

Looks like porcelain instead of clay. Awesome
Even if the finished product breaks, it breaks clean thus it's easy to mend.

great for models
Helped my grandson with a model dinosaur. This worked out great, we put it in the oven, and it did not fall apart.

Best polymer clay
Bakes hard, and durable. It does require quite a bit of "working" before it becomes pliable. Superior to all others, the King of Polymer clay

Good clay for sculpting
I bought this clay because of the amount of detail it can hold as a firmer clay compared to regular super sculpey. It also smooths very well with alcohol brushed on. I like how the clay is semi-soft at room temperature and in your hands. When it's cool it remains tougher but I wouldn't call it hard at all. I love that this can be baked hard. I recommend starting with support structure of wire and tin foil because it's impossible to completely bake it through if it's over half an inch or so.
