sun-baked tie-dye t-shirt

Summer isn't complete without a tie-dye shirt! Make this beautiful, sun-baked tie-dye shirt designed by Kara from @kailochic.
Step 1

Begin by accordion folding the shirt lengthwise and tying the shirt with rubber bands. Band the shirt in sections according to haw many dyes you plan to use on your shirt.

Step 2

Wet your entire shirt so that it will better accept the dye.

Step 3

Mix water in the dye bottles up to the line.

Step 4

Pour half the dye mix into a separate clean empty bottle and dilute further by adding an equal amount of water to get a more muted, sun-baked look.

Step 5

Next, use the squirt bottles to apply the dye to the sections of the shirt.
TIP: Let them bleed into each other around the rubber bands.

Step 6

Once the dye is on the shirt, let it sit for 6 hours, then rinse the shirt in hot water to remove any extra dye.

Step 7

Let the shirt sit overnight to dry fully.

Step 8

The next day, wash and dry your shirt as normal.
TIP: This technique of washing out the dye before it fully sets (usually you need to wait 24 hours before rinsing) results in the muted sun-baked look.
