Strathmore® 300 Series Newsprint Pad is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from careful tearing off if you need neat ends be careful tearing these off. otherwise, I life-hack and cut the 18x24 to get 4 9x12 sheets out of each sheet. students use them to draft their drawings prior to using color on artist paper.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's okay, but was better... Before they decided to change grain direction. It really surprised me, seeing how grain is basically one of the holy trifecta of paper. Now this paper is useless for my original purpose. If Hershey's starts using carob instead of chocolate, I'm gonna move to Mars :D

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Newsprint is Newsprint Newsprint is it's name and that's exactly what it is (meaning no offense to anyone, just stating the facts); it's cheap, low quality, very light weight at 32lbs (the heavier the paper, the better it is), it's what newspapers are printed on, and what we give young elementary school children to practice their letters & writing. I personally barely use it unless I'm doing large sketches that I'm still figuring out what I'm doing for my final illustration on a different piece of paper/board. I find softer mediums work the best on it, like charcoal, pastels, softer graphite pencils, etc. In my art classes we always used it for gesture drawings, quick sketches, warm-up drawings but never the final work. I'm not a mixed media person but it could be good for that and for layering. I don't recommend paint unless you're just trying out different techniques, it would just absorb the water or oil depending on the paint and warp your paper. I once used pen and ink by way of a nib and the fibers of the paper just clogged the nib up and ripped the paper. My advice is to use it for gesture drawings and quick sketches with charcoal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OK, it's newsprint... ...but it's really rather nice newsprint. Not too rough, not too slick. Way better than end rolls from the local newspaper. I'll buy it again.
