sculpey® terra cotta clay painted bowl
Step 1 |
Protect your work surface with a disposable cover, such as wax paper (or disposable foil). |
Step 2 |
Start with clean hands, unwrap, and knead clay until soft and smooth, or condition by running clay through a conditioning machine. |
Step 3 |
Condition and roll approximately a 2½" [6.35 cm] ball of Terra Cotta clay. Flatten and run this through the pasta machine on the #1 setting. Fold in half to double the thickness. Cut out a circle approximately 3½" [8.89 cm] to 4" [10.16 cm] in diameter. Smooth the edges. Press this circle into your glass bowl making sure it is in the middle. Press it into the dish from the middle out getting all the air bubbles out. |
Step 4 |
Preheat oven to 275 °F [130 °C] and bake the dish for 30 minutes per ¼" [.6 cm] thickness according to package directions. Allow to cool completely before painting.
|
Step 5 |
Paint the inside of your dish with white acrylic paint. You may need three coats. Allow paint to dry completely between coats. |
Step 6 |
Using a pencil, lightly trace around a small ¾" [1.9 cm] circle cutter in the middle of the bowl. |
Step 7 |
Paint your penciled design in black acrylic paint. |
Step 8 |
Finally, gently erase any lines that may still be showing. |
