Royal Velvet™ Yarn by Loops & Threads® is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks good, but ..... The blankets I knit turn out well but many balls have breaks or thin stretches. At least 1/3 of the balls have had problems. For such expensive yarn the quality control should be better. Having said that the finished products look good, are soft and warm.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love love love this yarn but it’s so expensive! This yarn is so unbelievably soft and cuddly. When making a blanket it’s almost weighted it has such a heavy comfy feel to it. The problem is the amount of yarn it takes to make an adult size blanket you will spend a crazy amount of money. I’ve gone through 5 of it already and it’s not even baby blanket sized yet. The colors are stunning and I don’t mind the shedding, I don’t see it shedding more than other velvet yarns. I’ll easily be 200 in by the time I complete the blanket. The colors online are off for sure. The teal looks royal blue but it is closer to the picture of the mallard color on the website.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Blanket dilemma It's hard to work with doesn't go very far and will unravel if you aren't keeping track of the ends. That said....the blanket is a soft and warm and so heavy it is really like a weighted blanket. It's like expensive bras...not great but pretty. Completely agree on the Bernat being the one to go for. Wish Bernat had more colors like this blush pink. Since this is Michaels home brand and needs to be revisited by them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE it! This yarn is beautiful and I have no issues working with it! It does shed if you leave the ends loose, but I just tucked them properly in and no problems at all. Also easy to wash & dry. I used a garment bag and it washed and dried perfectly. It will shrink up in the dryer, but stretches back easily. I will continue to use this yarn as long as Michaels can manage to keep their shelves stocked better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Royal Velvet Yarn by Loops & Threads Honestly, there is no reason NOT to LOVE this yarn if you treat it right: for example, when joining yarns, pluck a little of the velour off of the last half inch or so of each end before tying it together. I have used a size M crochet hook and worked a recliner chair seat cover in a double crochet cable stitch. It’s in Mallard color and looks and feels very sturdy. I would also recommend using a crochet hook a size or two larger when creating the initial chain. I need more of the Red Wine color! It’s discouraging to see it out of stock at the national level. I do hope that changes soon! - Jane

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't make a blanket I really wish I had read the reviews before buying this yarn, it's incredibly soft and plush and I had started to make a full size/queen size blanket....big expensive mistake...I have decided I am unhappy with it and just going to return to yarn I did not use yet. It's really hefty and michaels doesn't keep a large overstock of this yarn in certain colors (had to drive an hour away to get the same color) about 3 balls made just over a foot so I bought 12 balls of this yarn ($120+ without coupons!) Plus I bought 2 balls of yarn in the bernat velvet plus from joanns (highly recommend that yarn over this yarn!) It has not been hard to crochet (I'm just using my fingers) but it is hard to tie off as well as keep the loops tight (because it's so heavy it stretches really quickly!) As soft as this yarn is maybe only use it for smaller projects/plushies...the pattern included is like a pillow cover, but don't make a blanket. (The colors I used were mallard and taupe in the loops and threads velvet and I used plum maroon in the bernat velvet plus, which I like much more) Also in the pictures the larger loops in the green I believe are caused by me just showing it around the house to my family about this project vs how tight the taupe is but I really think with how hefty this is all the loops no matter how tight I do them will be all big and not useable...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Comes apart Knitted a blanket for my grandson with this wool. I was concerned about the strength as it sheds and is held together by strands of cotton. Big mistake and a waste of money. In 2 weeks the blanket has large holes.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Extremely difficult to work with. Absolutely beautiful yarn, but I was so disappointed it the fact that it breaks easily and sheds all over the place. I finally tied yarns together and put Fray Check on the ends to prevent unraveling. I am about to handwash as was recommended by another knitter to help with the shedding, but I am not hopeful that this will be a permanent remedy. I think I learned a very expensive lesson.
