rainbow sprinkle cake
Do you love sprinkles so much that you just want to roll your whole cake with this sugary goodness? Well, now is your chance! Follow the instructions to make your very own Rainbow Sprinkle Cake!
Step 1 |
Follow the instructions on the back of your cake mix to make three 6" [15.24 cm] cake rounds. After they are fully baked, remove them from their pans and pop them in the fridge or freezer to cool for 2-4 hours. |
Step 2 |
Set your first cake layer on a cake board and attach with frosting. Apply white buttercream icing between each layer and stack each cake round, one by one. Surround the entire stack in a smooth, thin layer of buttercream icing. |
Step 3 |
Chill for at least 30 minutes, then add another thin layer of white buttercream. This is your outermost layer of buttercream, so it needs to look good! We are going to roll it in sprinkles though, so it doesn't need to look absolutely perfect. |
Step 4 |
On a large cookie sheet, dump out your sprinkles. Press your hand down on them to make sure they are only one layer deep, and spread them out to create a sort of "sprinkle runway" where you intend to roll your cake. You don't need to fill the whole tray. |
Step 5 |
Attach a cake board to the top of your cake and lift your cake by holding it by the cake boards that are on top and bottom. Roll your cake in the sprinkles you've laid out on your pan. |
Step 6 |
After your first roll, rearrange the sprinkles left over in the pan back into another neat runway and prepare to roll your cake again. Be sure that the sides of your cake that need sprinkles the most will touch down first. Repeat until whole cake is covered. |
Step 7 |
Once your sides are completely covered, remove the cake board from the top of your cake. Add more buttercream icing on top of cake as needed and then cover in sprinkles. |
Step 8 |
Fill a piping with your decorator tip and buttercream icing. Pipe cute buttercream dollops on top and sprinkle a few extra sprinkles, and voilà! Your rainbow sprinkle cake is done! |
