This project is intended for kids ages 6+. Have fun making a Valentine Backpack Dangle using solid and striped Perler® beads with a hidden message for your friends!

Print Project

Step 1

First, click here to download and print the decoder.

Step 2

Now, follow the decoder to create a hidden message within your bead design when adding to the pegs on your pegboard.

Step 3

ADULT: Follow the package instructions for ironing/melting the beads. Let cool before removing from the pegboard.

Step 4

Thread a Rainbow Loom® rubber band through a bead with a lark’s head knot to attach then repeat on your backpack!
TIP: To make a lark’s head knot, pinch the rubber band in half. Thread one bend of the band through a bead then through the fold on the other side of the band. Pull so the fold on one side lays against your backpack dangle while the other fold is hanging from the backpack dangle. Loop the part of the rubber band that is hanging from the backpack dangle around an opening (such as a buckle or zipper pull) on your backpack then thread the open the loop and carefully tuck the backpack dangle through the opening.
