Oil Paint Set By Artist's Loft™, 24 Pieces is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Some professional characteristics. I bought the Yellow Ocher 2 ouncer, but most of the reviews are over here. I have since bought 3 other colours. Some of the negative reviews mention smell, toxicity, slow drying, and oils collected at the mouth of the tube. The medium is linseed oil, and that seems to be the main smell these give off. It is all I smell. Linseed is the oil in oil paint, normally, and forms the strongest paint films. In a medicinal or pharmaceutical grade, linseed oil is safe to consume. Do not eat paint. Most of the best oil paints use linseed oil. The smell may be objectionable, and for the most part I would not use these paints indoors unless abundant ventilation is provided, though many do not object to the smell. As mentioned linseed oil is not toxic. But this also applies to the pigments. These paints are not toxic according to labeling, and they conform to ASTM D 4236, which googling confirmed refers to a requirement that any toxic ingredients are marked on the label, which will not occur as there are none. A fair criticism of these paints is that the absence of toxic ingredients, like cadmium, limits the range of colors available. But often these ingredients are also expensive so their presence would not be expected at this price point. The Yellow Ocher I first purchased uses, as an example, iron oxide, rusts, as the pigment. This material is often used in cosmetics. These simple pigments may be present in good quantities as they can be cheap as dirt. This is called "pigment load". Often cheaper paints use less pigment, but in avoiding the expensive pigments this line can have decently pigmented paints, at least in the colours offered. Some expensive paints use so much pigment it affects handling, and requires mediums that are often toxic themselves, and are always costly, so there can be an advantage to cheap paints if you know how to play them. Also, some highly pigmented paints are so colour dense that it complicates mixing them, it takes very little to cause a huge shift, and getting them out of your brush is another issue. Lots of brushes. Slow drying can be expected from non-toxic, linseed oil based paints. The components that speed drying, "driers", are often very toxic heavy metals. Slow drying can be a huge advantage in ala prima painting, and portraiture, to name two. When paintings are finished in these styles, some of the super expensive paints take months to fully dry. There are also styles like plein air, where faster drying paints may be preferred. The oil collecting at the mouth of the tube problem, which the colours I have doesn't show, but is pretty typical of oil paints, is mainly caused by old tubes (at stores with poor turnover) and the fact these hang from their tails, which is convenient. If you don't care for that you can store them cap high. There are methods of preparing paints where you transfer the paint to jars, and that is something one may encounter along the path. The biggest issue with these paints is how to work the good and the other. The smell might mean you wanted to use them out of doors, but the slow drying might orient them to studio work. If you know paint and colour theory there are uses. But for casual users you can at least be aware that these are classic compositions, and you won't be hurt using them. Not recommended for casual art with kids.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy LEVEL 1 ACADEMIC OIL PAINT This paint has a strong order and take too long to dry. I used them once and threw them away. This paint is complete garbage!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First time oil painting I had fun with these paints. They were affordable for the novice painter that I am. They blended well and I'm happy with my first attempt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love oils so these were the right price! For my little art/piano Student for her birthday gifts, she was elated and I loved all of my selections for her!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Priced for beginners I got an extra blue instead of the bright red. I had a specific Bob Ross painting to do that called for bright red. Also, I got water colors instead of oils when the store packaged my online order, so I had already returned once. Ended up substituting Crimson for bright red. These set used to come with an extra large titanium white. That was a good thing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great starter set Although these aren't considered top of the line paints I enjoy using them. The price makes me feel less guilty when I experiment. If you use these with other brands of paint make sure you color match first. Different brands tend to vary in color and consistency.
