Great for pre-teens
Pros: super cool idea; easy to mix
Cons: consistent chemical smell
The Good: Picked this and the Purple Crystal set up for an activity at work. They were easy to work with, even for 12 year olds (with supervision). Instructions were clear, and we were able to complete the set in a rambunctious youth activity center without issue.
The Bad: Even though I expected the smell (I grew up doing the homemade version of these with random chemicals from my parent's labs) -- I noted it here because it was very strong according to the kids. So far, the finished crystals still smell faintly, but it seems to be fading. Said smell is stronger with the glowing crystal than the purple.

Very deceiving
The entire package leads you to believe you will grow a crystal that is cool colored, not just clear. It doesn’t even say anywhere on the packaging or in the instructions HOW to change the color of the crystal.

Easy project to do with the kids. My 7 and 4 year old kids loved the experiment and woke up every morning to check the crystal growth. They forgot the crystals glows in the dark so ended up being a nice surprise the following week.

What a wonderful experiment for my granddaughter. Crystal labs have come such a long way from when my daughter was young. This one was was easy to set up and a huge bonus that it actually really did glow in the dark!
