multi-strand pearl necklace
Step 1 |
Pull about 24" [61 cm] out from the spool and use the spool clip to hold it in place. Do not cut the wire from the spool. |
Step 2 |
Snip the very end of the beading wire if it’s a new spool. String on one size 11 seed bead, one 12mm pearl until all three strands are used up. The strand should be about 16½" [42 cm]. |
Step 3 |
String onto the wire a crimp tube, a wire guardian (up one side and back down the other), and thread the wire guardian with the wire through the outermost loop of the spacer bar. Thread your wire back down through the crimp tube. With the chain nose pliers, gently squeeze the ends of the wire guardian together at the top of the crimp tube. Use the crimping pliers to crimp the crimp tube in place. Move the beads up against the crimp, add a bead stopper (or a piece of masking tape) on the end of the strand and leave about 2" [5 cm] of wire and snip it from the spool. |
Step 4 |
Repeat Step 2 with the 9mm pearls until the strand is 15" [38 cm]. Then crimp the end to the next loop on the spacer bar. |
Step 5 |
Repeat Step 2 with the 8mm pearls until the strand measures 14" [35.5 cm]. Then crimp the end to the middle loop on the spacer bar. |
Step 6 |
Repeat Step 2 to add another strand of 8mm pearls. This time, the strand should measure 13" [33 cm]. Crimp to the next loop on the spacer bar. |
Step 7 |
Repeat Step 2 with the 6mm pearls until the strand measures 12" [30.5 cm]. Crimp this strand to the outermost loop on the spacer bar. |
Step 8 |
Lay out your design so that the strands lay flat next to each other in a “U” shape and make sure that the beads all line up at the top. Adjust bead count more or less as needed. |
Step 9 |
Starting at one side, use a crimp tube and wire guardian to crimp each strand to the spacer bar. Make sure you follow the same order as on the other side. |
Step 10 |
Working from the spool, string onto the wire one seed bead and one 6mm pearl, 14 times, ending with one seed bead. Crimp one end to the single loop on the spacer bar and one end to one half of the clasp (you won’t be able to use a wire guardian with the magnetic clasp). Repeat on the other side. |
