mod podge® canvas and paper gallery wall
Step 1 |
For the largest canvas, first create a pattern on scrap paper for the triangle shapes with a ruler and pencil. Use the ruler to draw a 3" [7.62 cm] line. Find the centre of this line and draw a line coming down that is 4" [10.16 cm] in length. This should look like a “T”. Connect the top right and left corners of the “T” with the bottom point of the vertical line you have drawn. This should create a triangle shape. Cut this shape out using scissors. |
Step 2 |
Trace the triangle shape on various patterned papers using a pencil and cut them out using scissors. |
Step 3 |
Arrange the cut-out papers on the 11" x 14" [27.94 cm x 35.56 cm] canvas in a pattern. |
Step 4 |
Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge® matte to the backs of these papers using a flat brush and apply to the canvas. Use your fingers to smooth out the paper to make sure there is full contact with the canvas. Let dry. |
Step 5 |
Tape off the open spaces of the canvas on the right and left to match the triangle pattern on the rest of the canvas. Paint inside the taped areas Gold with a flat brush as shown. Let dry. |
Step 6 |
Next, create the design for the medium canvas. Using a ruler, find the centre of the canvas. Do this by measuring halfway up each side and marking lightly with a pencil. Lay your ruler across the canvas matching up with these marks and mark the centre. |
Step 7 |
Using the centre mark as a guide, tape off a “V” shape from the top two corners to the centre of the canvas, as shown. |
Step 8 |
Paint inside the “V” shape Gold with a flat brush. Let dry and apply more coats as needed. Remove the tape. |
Step 9 |
Using scissors, cut several strips of paper that are 3" [7.62 cm] wide and long enough to stretch across the entire canvas. |
Step 10 |
Place the strips of paper in a “V” shape beneath the Gold painted area. See project photo for reference. |
Step 11 |
When you are satisfied with the paper placement, apply a thin, even coat of Mod Podge® matte to the backs of the papers and apply them to the canvas. Smooth down the papers with your hands to ensure even contact with the canvas. Let dry and trim the excess paper from the edges of the canvas. |
Step 12 |
Finally, create the design for the small canvas. Using a flat brush, basecoat the canvas with Gold paint. Let dry and apply more coats as needed. |
Step 13 |
Using scissors, cut papers into 1½" [3.81 cm] strips. |
Step 14 |
Using a flat brush, apply a thin, even coat of Mod Podge® matte to the back of the paper strips and apply them to the corner of the canvas. Smooth out the paper to make sure there is full contact. See project photo for paper placement. Let dry. |
