Add a modern twist to your painting with metallics. The paint has a sheen and illusion that will help you create a unique background and subject.

Print Project

Step 1

Pour metallic paint on a piece of palette paper. Use a palette knife to pick up some of the paint and spread it across the canvas. Mix metallics by dragging the paint over the canvas.
TIP: For the beach scene, think about the sky, horizon and water when adding the paint. Let dry.

Step 2

To make the palm trees, use a palette knife to add paint for the trunk.
TIP: This metallic paint is sheer so you will need to add multiple coats.

Step 3

Paint the palms on top with a paintbrush. Make a curve and pull the paint down to create a feathered look. Continue to build up the paint on the palms.
TIP: This painting style is imperfect and modern so don't think it needs to be perfect.

Step 4

To add the illusion of coconuts, dip the back of your paintbrush in the paint and drop it on the palms close to the truck top. Build up the paint until you like the accent.

Step 5

Finish by adding a few accents to the shore, horizon line and sides of the canvas.
