melted dot paper cactus
This project is intended for children age 6+. Did you know you can melt Perler® beads in the oven to make bright dots? An adult can do the melting then use them to embellish your paper cactus garden!
Step 1 |
ADULT: Line a flat, sturdy pan with parchment paper and preheat your over to 325°. |
Step 2 |
Place Perler® beads on the pan, standing up so the hole is vertical, and space the, at least 1" [2.5 cm] apart. |
Step 3 |
ADULT: Carefully place the pan into the oven and bake for 30 minutes; then set aside to cool. |
Step 4 |
Now, click here to download and print the template; then cut out the patterns. Be sure to cut the slit, indicated by a dotted line on the template, as well. |
Step 5 |
Trace the patterns onto cardstock and then cut out the shapes. |
Step 6 |
Glue the Perler® dots to the cut-out shapes to embellish. Let dry. TIP: Use a toothpick to pick up glue from the bottle and add to the cactus. |
Step 7 |
Slide the cactus shapes into each other to assemble. |
Step 8 |
Add flower shapes. |
Step 9 |
Push Model magic® into a clay pot, then add your cactus. TIP: The serves to hold the cactus in place. If needed, use a toothpick to carve a line so the paper will slide in, then push the clay into the paper to secure. |
Step 10 |
Cut a piece of ribbon that fits around the perimeter of the clay pot and glue in place. Let dry. |
Step 11 |
Glue Perler® dots to the ribbon and let dry. Share your project photos with #MakeItWithMichaels |
