It has pockets! Make getting out the door to your next yoga meetup a breeze with this sling style yoga tote.
Step 1

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Height = 18” (46cm) and Width = 18” (46cm)

GAUGE: 14 sts x 13 rows = 4” (10cm) in texture pattern with larger hook; save time and check your gauge


SPECIAL STITCHES:

Fpdc (front post double crochet): Yo, insert hook from front to back to front around the post of the st and draw yarn through, [yo and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice.


PATTERN NOTES:

Bag is used like a sling, hold both handles and your yoga mat will fit in the fold with 2 pockets to hold your accessories.

Step 2

INSTRUCTIONS:

Body

Beginning Border

With larger hook, ch 66.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *sk 1 ch, 2 sc in next ch; rep from * to last 2 ch, sk 1 ch, sc in last ch, turn – 64 sc.

Rows 2-8: Ch 1, sc in 1st sc, *sk next sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * to last sc, sc in last sc, turn.


Row 9: Ch 1, sc in next 30 sc, sk next sc, sc in each sc to end, turn – 63 sc.


Texture Pattern

Note: On Rows 3 and 5, you’ll be working into 63 stitches total, alternating between the sc from the last row and working fpdc’s around the dc’s from the row before, as you continue repeats you’ll be staggering your fpdc’s so they will be worked around the regular dc sts, not the previous fpdc sts.  

Row 1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in each sc across, turn – 63 dc.

Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc in each st across, sc in 3rd ch of beg ch-3, turn – 63 sc.

Row 3: Ch 3, *fpdc around the next dc below, sk sc above dc worked, dc in next sc; rep from * across – 63 dc (31 fpdc worked).

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each st across, sc in 3rd ch of beg ch-3, turn – 63 sc.

Row 5: Ch 3, dc in next sc, *fpdc around the next dc below, sk sc above dc worked, dc in next sc; rep from * across to last sc, dc in last dc, turn – 63 dc (30 fpdc worked).

Repeat Rows 2-5, until piece measures 34” (86cm), ending with Row 3 or 5.

Step 3

Ending Border

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each of next 31 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in each st to end, turn – 64 sc.

Rows 2-9: Ch 1, sc in 1st sc, *sk next sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * to last sc, sc in last sc, turn.

Fasten off.


Pockets (make 2)

Top Edging

With larger hook, ch 38.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *sk 1 ch, 2 sc in next ch; rep from * to last 2 ch, sk 1 ch, sc in last ch, turn – 36 sc.

Rows 2-4: Ch 1, sc in 1st sc, *sk next sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * to last sc, sc in last sc, turn.


Row 5: Ch 1, sc in next 15 sc, sk next sc, sc in each sc to end, turn – 35 sc.

Step 4

Texture Pattern

Row 1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in each sc across, turn – 35 dc.

Row 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc in each st across, sc in 3rd ch of beg ch-3, turn – 35 sc.

Row 3: Ch 3, *fpdc around the next dc below, sk sc above dc worked, dc in next sc; rep from * across – 35 dc.  

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each st across, sc in 3rd ch of beg ch-3, turn – 35 sc.

Row 5: Ch 3, dc in next sc, *fpdc around the next dc below, sk sc above dc worked, dc in next sc; rep from * across to last sc, dc in last dc, turn – 35 dc.

Repeat Rows 2-5, until piece measures 8” (20cm), ending with Row 2 or 4.  

Fasten off.


Handles (Make 2)

With smaller hook, ch 196.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn – 195 sc.

Rows 2-5: Ch 1, sc in each ch across, turn.

Fasten off.


Step 5

Finishing: Lay main piece with RS up. With sl st crochet, attach one pocket on each end, centered, with top edge of pocket just below the border of the main piece. Sl st along the sides and bottom of the pocket, leaving the top edge (beginning ch edge) open. Position the handles on the bag as follows, the handles will each make an arch on opposite end of the bag, with the beginning ch edge the inside edge of the arch. Line up the bottom of the arches with the bottom of the pockets, with the arches running up the bag along the outside edge of the pockets. With sl st crochet attach each end of the strap to the bag, sl st along bottom edge of strap, up to top edge of bag, across top edge of bag, and back down to bottom edge.  

Weave in ends.

Step 6
