Works very well on large mats
I bought this to cut out a 24x36" mat for a large frame. I had a 48" aluminum level available and used it as a guide. Use another person to hold the level, however, it is best if you can clamp it to the table. My wife and son helped hold the level as I did not feel like using clamps, and we cut out a perfect mat. It was so easy! Besides having a long immobile guide, the key to cutting a large mat is that you cannot cut it in one long flowing motion. Just cut for 8 inches and stop, reposition yourself, and then continue to cut the next 8 inches. This prevents the person who is cutting from exerting too much pressure towards the side, which has to be done in order to keep the cutter flush against the guide. As always, draw a diagram, measure twice and cut once.

NOT good for left handed users
Works okay overall, but I am completely incapable of using this. I used to think I was somewhat ambidextrous... I guess it turns out I am not. If you are left handed, do not buy this, unless you plan on using your right hand anyway. Guess my right handed friends will be making my cuts for me today.

Small mats only
This mat cutter should be $15 max and only used on mats smaller than 14 inches. I had help holding my straight edge for larger mats but it is not reliable. Easily slips under the straight edge and will not cut through entirely in patches if you’re not robotically consistent with speed and pressure. There should be a more reliable way for artists to cut mats without spending hundreds. You get what you pay for, in this case too much.

Cost effective solution for occasional mat cutting
Great product as a short term solution (until I can afford a more 'industrial' cutter). If If you regularly cut mats or need to cut A LOT of mats this is probably not the answer. But for a couple of mats a week it has worked flawlessly. Make sure you clamp a straight edge as a guide and be sure to cut all the way to your cut line. Most importantly PRACTICE! It's worth the $9 for an extra piece of board to get used to how this cuts. One mistake and you could be buying another piece of board anyway.

Great frame cutter, great discount
I lost my first frame cutter when I moved, this second one is better. After a line cut, the blade automatically retracts back. Safety first. I also bought this with a 50% off coupon. Can't beat that.

Even easy to use with non-dominant hand!
I'm a righty, and I had to use my left hand a lot of the time to correctly do the cuts I needed. It was SOOOO simple and easy with this! I highly recommend.

Works well
Item performed well. Used it against clamped down heavy ruler to perform a clean straight line. Recommend trying it out first on scrap to make sure cut depth is appropriate. Finally, cut needs to begin slightly before indicator mark to make sure corner cut is performed.
