liquitex acrylic gouache stenciled tote bag
Step 1 |
Step 1 Insert a piece of freezer (or wax) paper between the layers of the tote bag and smooth out flat. Using masking (or painter’s) tape, secure all four sides of the tote to your work surface to ensure the bag stays as flat and taught as possible. |
Step 2 |
Step 2 Place stencil in desired location and adhere to tote with masking (or painter’s) tape. TIP: Using a pencil and a ruler if necessary, make light marks on the tote bag where you want your stencil to be placed. |
Step 3 |
Step 3 Dampen the sponge with water, squeezing out all excess wetness, just to ease stiffness and allow for the sponge to absorb the paint. |
Step 4 |
Step 4 Dip a corner of the sponge into your first gouache colour and gently dab onto the stencil. TIP: To achieve the look of the sample, use a different corner for each colour and blend them into each other as you work. |
Step 5 |
Step 5 Continue to dab and blend colours until your desired look is achieved. |
Step 6 |
Step 6 While paint is still wet, slowly and carefully peel the stencil up from one corner to another. Let dry approximately 15 minutes before handling the tote. TIP: If necessary, erase any pencil marks that may remain. Share your project photos with #MakeItWithMichaels |
