Lion Brand® Shawl in A Ball Yarn is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 193.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shawl in a Ball Great product for shawls or scarves. Interesting texture adds pizazz. I used 3 balls to make a really large prayer shawl to wrap a friend in. Colors are intriguing and add depth to the finished article.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfectly soft My go to yarn. Nice and soft for shawl. Made a c2c patter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So beautiful This is beautiful yarn. One of my favourites! Especially the sparkly ones! I can see how beginners might have problems with tangling and splitting but I have not had any problems with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful End Result Decided to make a 72" shawl with fringe. This took 2 skeins, using a 3.25 crochet hook. Once you get used to the "feel" of the yarn, the project went quickly. I'm an advanced beginner and didn't have any problems. My daughter LOVED it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Needs quality control There's random knots, random white pieces where there should be colour, and two of the four balls I bought had two pieces tied together to make the full ball. It is pretty, but unless you're buying this at under $3 per roll, it's too expensive for that many errors. Definitely not worth $9+

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful yarn for making scarves/shawls One thing I like is I haven’t found any knots or breaks in the skeins.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is lovely to woodland with Enjoyable and easy to knit. I am pleased with this brand.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay but not great Not in love with this yarn, it breaks easily while knitting. It also gets knotted a lot. Overall not a great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful colors This yarn has beautiful colors & sparkle to give my scarfs that little “extra special” look. I will say that I found it just a little more awkward to work with being that it’s think & has the silver going thru it..but well worth it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Graceful I liked working with this yarn, used a couple different hooks, one of which was suggested and a smaller hook, still looked fantastic. Although there were a few imperfections; felted and a couple of knots along the strand, it did allow for some extra texture, yet at this price point I wasn’t expecting that. Overall I liked it, makes a really nice lacy triangle shaped crocheted scarf.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this yarn Just finished a shawl using this yarn. The texture is great and I love how gradually the colors change.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great idea, needs some quality control I have had several balls of this yarn I purchased for myself, and I was frustrated by the severe imperfections in the yarn. I was recently gifted several balls of it, and ran into the exact issue as the previous ones, only worse. Every so often throughout the ball of yarn, there will be a bare section of white in the middle of a darker color with the color it should be "felted" in patches. I have had to tie off several times and skip feet of yarn, which defeats the purpose and wrecks the flow of the varigation. Quality control needs some help on this product, if some balls are $11+ per skein.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice to work with works up beautifully, but you cannot make an entire shawl out of the one skein. You will need two.
Date published: 2019-01-28
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and easy to work with This is the seventh shawl I have knit with this yarn. Beautiful color transitions and all in one ball.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Light Weight! I used this yarn to crochet a Valentine's inspired tunic! I LOVE the results. The colors are warm and inviting!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good hand when knitted. Lovely for knitting lace. Once knitted up, the 'hand' feels like feathers. Easy to use and looks great with the multicolor and the textured yarn is easy to handle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome yarn It's prettier than it showed ..I will enjoy making an Afghan with this yarn...Thank You for your great service....

Rated 2 out of 5 by from great some of the time! When the cotton slub covers the whole string it is a wonderful thing to knit with and works up well, however, when it breaks down into a "thread" for miles on end then it is very hard to knit with and changes the look of the garment. I am tempted to cut off thoese sections of the yarn so that my garment will look even. Would be well worth Lion Brands efforts to fix this problem!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful but thin! This yarn is very soft and fuzzy and beautiful, but be warned, it is NOT worsted weight! You'd only use size 8 needles if you wanted to make something lacy, which is perfect for this kind of yarn (and what it's meant for), but on its own it's more like DK or fingering weight! It works up very pretty though, either in a lace stitch or tighter stitch. I haven't washed it yet though and it seems like it might become a matted mess because of the fuzz.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful! I wanted to try this yarn and decided to take advantage of your sale. The Shawl in a Ball is prettier than I expected and works up beautifully.
Date published: 2018-12-03
Rated 3 out of 5 by from worked up decently a product that is intended to form a nice gradient should not have had so many awkward joined ends in it. i had three within my skein and though the project still looks nice, it would have been much better with a continuous strand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful sheen I made a beautiful shawl. The yarn was very easy to crochet. I gave the shawl to a friend. Everyone complimented her on it. They loved the colors and the sheen of the yarn. I used the color Prism.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than expected! I bought this to make a lightweight cardigan for my sister. She wanted something easy care- i.e. Machine washable. So far it's easy to work with and feels really nice! I would buy this yarn again.
Date published: 2018-10-20
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful Yarn, just not the weight I expected The yarn was so pretty and I loved the colors but I didn't realize that the Shawl in a Ball was such a light weight yarn. It wasn't suitable for the project I was buying it for.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Weight flux, not subtle color change, not dyeable I've made several projects out of many skeins of shawl in a ball. I had decent results with my lace tablecloth (although the color changes give it a bullseye appearance that i detest) and a maple leaf shawl I made, though again, the color variations are distracting. But my major project was a shawl for myself. I couldn't find a color I liked so I decided to just go with something close and dye it. I finished my work, and washed it, and dyed the ends. The yarn became fuzzy, like a lousy fleece out of the dryer, the dye didn't take very well, and I'm not new. I am just disgusted. I hate it. Hours upon hours of work wasted. I'm going back to patons lace yarn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice tinsel flecked yarn Working up into a nice soft shawl. It’s a nice blue multi, and the tinsel makes it dressy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous yarn Gorgeous yarn and so soft! I’ll buy it again for another project
Date published: 2018-06-09
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Deep Color Options Working on a shawl project with this yarn right now. I like that it has cotton as part of the blend. It has an airy texture and allows me to use a larger hook so that the finished project should be warm, yet lightweight at the same time. I'm using a coloration of blue and turquoise tones, which is very attractive. So far, so good!
