kids halloween twisted macramé bracelet

This project is intended for kids ages 6+.
Step 1

First, cut a 72" [182.9 cm] piece and a 24" [61 cm] piece of cord.

Step 2

At about 6" [15.2 cm] from one end of the 24" [61 cm] piece, tie a double overhand knot.

Step 3

Tape the cord to your working space, above the knot. This will be the base of your bracelet.

Step 4

Tie the 72" [182.9 cm] cord around the base cord just below the knot. Make sure the strands on either side of the tie are even.

Step 5

Slide a bead onto the base and push it up to the tie.
TIP: Wrap a piece of tape around the end of the base cord and cut it to an angled point; then use it as a needle to help thread the bead onto your cord.

Step 6

Start your first square knot around the bead. To do this, take the right cord and fold it across the front of the base cord below the bead, horizontally, making the shape of a backward number “4”.

Step 7

Now, take the left cord and place it over the right cord, bend it back under the right cord and across back of the base cord then up through the opening of the backward “4”. Grab the ends of both cords and pull tight against the bead.

Step 8

Repeat Steps 6-7 without a bead.

Step 9

Add a bead to the base cord and slide up to the last square knot.

Step 10

Repeat Steps 6-9 until you have added a total of 13 beads.
TIP: Work each knot the same (from right to left) for this bracelet to create the twist.

Step 11

Tie an overhand knot with the base cord around the two outside working cords below the last bead.

Step 12

Trim the ends as close to the knot as you can.

Step 13

ADULT: Carefully use a lighter to singe the ends to cauterize so they are unable to unravel.

Step 14

Add two beads to both ends and tie an overhand knot at the end.

Step 15

Repeat Step 12.

Step 16

Arrange the bracelet ends in a circle where the ends overlap.

Step 17

Cut a 10" [24.4 cm] piece of cord. Tie it around the cord where they overlap. Make a few square knot over the two overlapping cords.

Step 18

Trim the ends of the cord close to the square knots.

Step 19

ADULT: Carefully use a lighter to singe the ends to cauterize so they are unable to unravel.
TIP: The ends with the two beads added in Step 14 can be pulled tighter when wearing or looser to remove as the square knots in Step 17 created a sliding knot.
