jute-wrapped rainbow necklace

Be the talk of your friends and make this Jute-Wrapped Rainbow Necklace! Take this home décor trend piece and make a smaller version for a necklace!
Step 1

First, cut a 15" piece of rope for your necklace.

Step 2

Add a dab of glue to two crimp closures and place each end of your rope in a closure. Fold the sides over the rope ends with a pair of pliers. Set aside to dry.

Step 3

Now, cut a piece of rope for each layer in your rainbow: 3½" [8.89 cm], 4½" [11.43 cm], 5½" [13.97 cm] and 6" [16.51 cm].
TIP: If you are making a five-layer rainbow, cut an additional piece that measures 6½" [15.24 cm].

Step 4

Starting with the inner most layer of your rainbow, lay the 3½" [8.89 cm] piece of rope you’re your working surface in the shape of an arch. Add a piece of tape where you want to start and end wrapping your jute.

Step 5

Repeat Step 4 for each arch in the rainbow. Hold each arch together so the tapes are even, ultimately resulting in the beginning and ending of your wraps also being even.
TIP: As you work, be sure to lay the arches together to make sure they will fit snugly together when assembled.

Step 6

Wrap each arch, from tape to tape, with jute. Tie the end of your jute onto the rope, just above the tape on one end and wrap over the excess jute to hide. When you get about a ½" from the tape on the other end, add a little glue, then finish wrapping. Let dry.

Step 7

Remove the tape at both ends of each arch.
TIP: Make sure all jute wraps are even across the ends of all arches. If needed, add a little, or remove, jute.

Step 8

Slide on a closed 11mm jump ring on the longest layer and move it to the center. Open the jump ring and place the rope of your necklace inside. Close the jump ring.

Step 9

Determine the front and back of your arches and assemble them together, face down, on your working surface.

Step 10

Again, add a generous amount of glue along the ridges between the arches attaching them together and make sure the jump ring remains in the top, center of the top layer.
TIP: Tape them to your working surface across the bottom. Also, cut a piece of wax (or parchment) paper and lay it over the back, then place a book or some other heavy object on top so as the glue dries, your rainbow stays flat.

Step 11

Unravel the excess rope that extends past the arches of your rainbow.

Step 12

Trim the ends of the excess rope so they are even but leave a length long enough to hang down from the jute-wrapped rainbow.

Step 13
Finally, add a jump ring to the loop the crimp closure on one end of your necklace, then and a jump ring with a lobster clasp on the other end.
