hydro-dip shoes

Make your shoes extra stylish with a personal flare using a fun marbling technique! Grab your DecoArt® Water Marbling supplies and we'll walk you through the steps to get started.

Print Project

Step 1

Remove laces from shoe.

Step 2

Wash canvas shoes in warm water with no fabric softener. Let completely dry.

Step 3

Apply surface prep to shoes as directed on the jar and let completely dry.

Step 4

Prepare your marbling water (or "size") using DecoArt® Magic Medium as directed on the jar.
TIP: Make sure to use a plastic container (or tote) that is deep enough to fit your submerged shoe.

Step 5

Stuff the inside of the shoe with newspaper to plump up the outer show area.

Step 6

Mask off any areas with painter's tape you do not want marbling.

Step 7

Use your water marbling paints to create a pattern on the surface of the water.

Step 8

Holding the shoe at approximately 15° angle, slowly dip it into the water until the surface of the shoe is fully covered in paint.

Step 9

Lift the shoe out of the water and set aside to dry.

Step 10

Using cleaning papers, clean the water to prepare for the next shoe.

Step 11

Repeat Steps 5-9 for the other shoe.

Step 12

Remove tape.
