Not for fountain pens
I purchased this ink for use in my fountain pen with a No. 6 medium nib. This ink is a hard starter and I will probably use with my steel nib dip pen. Bottom line: the box is labeled incorrectly.

This is NOT black ink!
I should have read the other reviews before purchasing this ink. Box claims "free-flowing black ink for use in all calligraphic and fountain pens." Perhaps in something like a dip pen this ink performs better. However I tried it in two different fountain pens and it was grey, not black. Both pens had wide nibs, a 1.1mm Speedball and the Manuscript with 0.85mm nib. When using the ink in a cartridge, I experienced a lot of flow issues and hard starts. In order to get a black mark on the page I had to lay down ink four times in the same spot. It's as if they took one of their other inks and watered it down. I shook the bottle well to ensure that it wasn't an issue with the bottle sitting on the shelf too long and settling but there was no improvement. The grey is not a bad color if that's what you want, but I would NOT call this a black ink. At this value per ml, I might be tempted to keep it for shading purposes if it weren't for the flow issues I experienced. At the same value you can get some Higgins Fountain Pen India or Higgins Eternal (still slightly on the greyish side, but actually black); time will tell if they are better with flow.

Excellent for Learning Calligraphy
This ink is really nice for someone learning, and doing calligraphy drills. Had to purchase some blotting paper to cover the excess, but this is nice, smooth, good flowing ink.

Pretty good, cheap ink
This ink is good for the price. It’s definitely not opaque, and it’s very very watery, so use accordingly. I do use it for calligraphy and brush painting and it’s good for both, but it’s a more washed grey than a strong black, but sometimes that’s the look you’re going for.

It felt like it was watered down!
This ink was watered down. It couldn't get the blackness I wanted.

Smooth flowing
I use this ink to outline my art. It works fine on both brush and quill.
