Rated 4 out of 5 by from Completely Satisfied I really thought I was never going to find a brand of student watercolors that really impressed me. Cotman watercolors where a huge let down for me both because of the lack of flow but also the dull lifeless colors that come forth after they dry. Grumbacher watercolors seem to have a higher pigment load and behave the way I want them to. They do have a somewhat grainy texture but it’s irrelevant to me as the end product looks much less muted and dull than most student grade watercolors. I plan on keeping these around for field sketches and such.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product is not the same as it was in the past This product remains a solid go to for similar results as compared with more expensive watercolors. Grumbacher academy paint used to have pigment quality which could match any of the more expensive brands. However, now it is understood to compete often some things are sacrificed. All in all still a good go to for consistency. Still own older products (1965) and new color products can not compare. It is understood that pigment quality is not consistent, so keep up the good work!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pigment load I taught Water color in a college and private art school. For the money you can't beat Grumbacher watercolors. They have a strong rich pigment load and are not watered down like some watercolors of similar cost. They stand up to many professiona grade paints.
