gray agate leather earrings
Step 1 |
Remove the jump ring from your circle blank and set aside. |
Step 2 |
Tape your blank to a steel block and insert the ball pein head into the hammer handle. |
Step 3 |
Strike your blank multiple times until you get the desired look and repeat for your second blank. |
Step 4 |
Punch a second hole in each blank, opposite from the pre-drilled hole, with the leather hole punch pliers. |
Step 5 |
Now, make the ear wires, grab the wire about 1/8" [0.32 cm] from the ball at the end of a headpin and roll it into a loop. Then, wrap the rest of the wire around the barrel of a large highlighter (or a ring mandrel) to shape. Bend the non-looped end at a slight angle. |
Step 6 |
Slide a hammered blank onto the ear wire and move it to rest inside the loop. Close the loop around the top of the blank. |
Step 7 |
Cut two 2" [5.08 cm] pieces of leather lace. |
Step 8 |
Turn the dial on the leather hole punch pliers to the centre and punch a hole in the centre at each end of both leather pieces. |
Step 9 |
Fold one leather piece in half; then take a jump ring you removed from your blanks in Step 1 and thread through the punch holes. Before you close the jump ring, thread a hammered blank through the hole opposite the ear wire and close the jump ring. Repeat with the second leather piece. |
Step 10 |
To make the bead link for the bottom of your earring, slide a bead onto a headpin. Bend the wire of the eye pin in a 90° angle just above the bead. Grasp the eye pin wire, about 3/8" - ½" [0.95 cm - 1.27 cm] from the bend, between the jaws of your round nose pliers. Rotate the pliers toward you, keeping a firm grip on the wire, until a small loop is formed. |
Step 11 |
Open an oval jump ring and use it to attach the bead link to the fold at the bottom of the leather piece of your earring, Close the jump ring so the seam is on the inside of the leather piece. |
