You're new to the skills necessary to complete this project, or maybe you've tried them just once or twice before.

This project is intended for kids age 4+. What could be better than creating a colourful solar system? How about one that glows in the dark? Just draw the planets with glue, and when it's dry, you can colour them in with silky crayons. Then, set in bright light for a while to "charge", turn off the lights and watch it glow!

Print Project

Step 1

First, click here to download and print the template. Set aside.

Step 2

Paint a canvas board black and let dry.

Step 3

Turn printed template over and using the side of your pencil, scribble all over the back.
TIP: Make sure to cover the area behind the images well with graphite from your pencil.

Step 4

Next, turn it back over to the front side and lay it on top of your black canvas. Trace all of the shapes on the printed template, pressing firmly, so the graphite from the back transfers your design to the canvas.

Step 5

Draw around the planet shapes with glow glue, directly from the bottle. Set aside to let dry completely.

Step 6

Now, you can fill in the planets with silky crayons, and draw the curved lines.

Step 7

Set your canvas under a bright or sun light to "charge" the glow paint, then turn off the lights or go into a dark space and see your solar system glow!
