Step 1 |
First, click here to download and print template; then cut out the shapes. Set aside. |
Step 2 |
Cut five 1"x5" [0.4 cm x 2 cm] strips of red felt and five 1"x5" [0.4 cm x 2 cm] strips of white felt. |
Step 3 |
Place the red strips horizontally in front of you. Begin weaving the white strips vertically through the red strips, first over, then under. Repeat for the second strip weaving under, then over. Alternate in this fashion to create the checkerboard pattern. |
Step 4 |
Add a bit of glue under the ends of each strip to secure in place. |
Step 5 |
To make the "picnic basket", cut a piece of Smoke (grey) felt 4"x6" [1.6 cm x 2.4 cm]. Fold in half so it is now 4"x3" [1.6 cm x 1.2 cm]. Cut a piece of yarn about 10" [25.4 cm] long and place each end in between the front and back of the "basket". Glue the sides of the basket. |
Step 6 |
Trace the shapes, set aside in Step 1, into felt and cut out. Glue pieces together for food items that require assembly. |
Step 7 |
Make an extra watermelon and glue it to the front of the picnic basket. |
