Step 1 |
Transform a traditional craft pumpkin into a chalked and textured décor piece. Make as many as you like and use them as accent pumpkins to decorate from early to late Fall. Step 1 First, cove the stem of your pumpkin(s) with masking tap to protect it from paint. Step 2 Use a pencil to lightly draw the vertical, irregular lines or shapes of fall leaves as desired on your pumpkin(s). TIP: Drawing your designs first allows you to space out your designs and create a consistent pattern. Step 3 Slowly trace hot glue over the pencil lines. TIP: Make sure to allow the glue to completely dry and cool before putting your hand over that area. Step 4 Now, in a well-ventilated area, spray paint your pumpkin(s) with chalky paint. Let the paint dry. You will need to add several coats for complete coverage and wait at least 10-20 minutes of dry time between coats. TIP: Use a piece of cardboard to protect your working surface with spray painting. Step 5 Once the chalk spray paint is completely dry, add a coat of brown wax. Simply place a little wax onto a damp cloth and rub it over the entire pumpkin. Remove some of the wax until you like the result with a clean cloth. Let the pumpkins completely dry. Step 6 Remove the masking tape from the stem(s). Step 7 To accent the pumpkins, cut some raffia and glue it to the top of the pumpkin and add ribbon.
