fall paper wreath
Step 1 |
First, create the triangles from cardstock. Use a half sheet of 12" [30.5 cm] square scrapbook paper folded into a large right triangle with a 17" [43.2 cm] base and 12" (30.5 cm] sides for the large leaf shape. For the smaller leaves, you would use half of the large triangle, which is a right triangle with a 12" [30.5 cm] base and 8½" [21.6 cm] sides. Cut a total of 15-20 different sized right triangles in a variety of solid and patterned cardstock to create different sized origami leaves. |
Step 2 |
Select one of the triangles. On the long side, accordion fold a ½" [1.3 cm] thick fold back and forth towards the triangle tip on the opposite side. |
Step 3 |
Fold the accordion-folded paper in half with the long sides touching. Use a line of hot glue to attach the two sides of the paper to each other to create your leaf shape. |
Step 4 |
Repeat this process with a variety of cardstock. |
Step 5 |
Paint your wreath form with acrylic craft paint and let dry. |
Step 6 |
Now, hot glue the leaves to the form on only the bottom portion of the wreath form. Overlap the smaller leaves onto the larger leaves and vary the angles as you work your way around the bottom of the wreath form. This will create an organic and unique flowing look to your wreath. |
Step 7 |
Once the leaves are in place, use faux flower blooms and berries to accent the origami paper leaves. Trim the stems from each of the floral elements and hot glue the blooms around the middle of the leaves where they overlap. Share your project photos with #MakeItWithMichaels |
