Step 1 |
Click here to download and print the pattern and here for the diagram; then cut out the pattern. Set the pattern pieces aside but keep the diagram close. |
Step 2 |
Cut four 1¼" x 21" [3.175 cm x 53.34 cm] strips of fabric. |
Step 3 |
Fold each strip in half and press with your iron. Lay one strip pattern side down on your workspace. Fold the length of one side of the raw edge in toward the centre fold mark and pin in place. Repeat for the other length, then fold together, pin and sew. Repeat for the remaining three strips. Set the strips a side for now. |
Step 4 |
Fold your fabric and position the pattern on the fold where indicated in the diagram. Pin in place and cut out two pieces. |
Step 5 |
Cut a 3" - 4" [7.62 cm - 10.16 cm] piece of a chenille pipe cleaner and position it onto the wrong side of one of the face mask pieces. You can either zig zag stitch, hand stitch or hot glue it into place. |
Step 6 |
Lay the face mask piece from Step 5, pattern-side down, and pin your straps (fabric or elastic) into place using the diagram as your guide. Sew the straps into place. |
Step 7 |
Lay the face mask piece with the straps right-side up and gather the straps into the centre of the mask. |
Step 8 |
Now, lay the other face mask piece, right-side down on top and pin these two pieces together. Stitch around the mask with a ¼" [0.635 cm] seam allowance, leaving the opening at the bottom where indicated on the diagram. |
Step 9 |
Turn the fabric inside out through the opening on the bottom of the mask. Flatten out the mask. Pin the opening together and stitch closed. |
Step 10 |
Following the diagram, create and pin the tucks, then sew them to secure. |
