Definitely need adult strength to open.
My daughter loved the kit. It was very difficult to crack open. We needed a real hammer and chisel. It would have been nice if there was a variety of crystals inside. They seemed to be mostly the same.

Disappointing purchase
Purchased for an 8 year old. Very disappointed with this. Tools provided are useless. We had to take it outside and use a hammer (so it had to be done by an adult). Poor collection of stones (very different than pictured on the box).

Fun Experience but..
It was fun to do this with my 6 year old however I was expecting the geodes to be all different colors and textures on the inside. I suppose I should have read the box before buying. I would buy again only if I knew they were each different.

Less than stellar results
I purchased this for my 7 years old nephew for Christmas. We were expecting the geodes to look more like the pictures on the box. However they either would not crack open without a fair amount of force and the results were many small pieces. There were 3 that were complete “duds” with nothing in them. We only had 1 that was decent looking.

Fun Science Project for Kids
Most of the geodes were quite small and very difficult to crack open. They were all white crystals on the inside (not blue or purple like the picture on the box). Kids enjoyed learning about the geodes, wearing the safety goggles, and hammering.

Need Thor's hammer for these.
Love the idea and they are pretty once you get them open, however it's not kid friendly. I tried to break one open and couldn't, my kids basically smashed them open on the ground by throwing them. I realize it's a rock, but the instructions make it seem so simple. I used a flathead screwdriver and hammer and didn't do anything.
