caron® sprinkle cakes™ chunky crochet short-row scarf

The pattern uses the short rows technique to create a rectangular shape made up of triangular wedges using Caron® Sprinkle Cakes™, a bulky weight self-striping yarn with fun "sprinkles" throughout.

Print Project

Step 1

MEASUREMENTS: Approx 10" x 90" [25.5 x 228.5 cm], excluding tassels
GAUGE:
- 7 sc and 8 rows = 4" [10 cm], take time to check your gauge
- 2 Wedges = Approx 5" x 10" [12.5 x 25.5 cm]
NOTES:
- To maintain consistent colour changes, join new ball of yarn to match last colour change of previous ball. This will help to ensure stripe repeat will match as closely as possible.

Step 2

INSTRUCTIONS:
Ch 21 (multiple of 4 ch + 1).
Foundation Row: (WS). Working into horizontal “bump” at back of each ch, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to end of chain. 20 sc.
Row 1: (RS). Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each sc to last 4 sc. Turn, leaving rem sts unworked. 16 sc.
Row 2 and Alt Rows: Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
Row 3: As Row 1. 12 sc.
Row 5: As Row 1. 8 sc.
Row 7: As Row 1. 4 sc.
Row 9: Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each of first 4 sc. (Sc2tog, working into side of last st of previous row and back loop only of next st 2 rows below. 1 sc in back loop only of each of next 3 sc) 4 times. Turn. 20 sc.
First wedge complete.
Rep Rows 1 to 9 until Scarf measures approx 90" [228.5 cm], ending on Row 9 of an even numbered wedge.
Next Row: As Row 2.
Fasten off.
Tassels (Make 10): Cut a piece of cardboard 4" [10 cm] wide. Wind yarn around cardboard 30 times. Break yarn leaving a long end and thread end through needle. Slip needle through all loops and tie tightly. Remove cardboard and wind yarn tightly around loops 1" [2.5 cm] below fold. Fasten securely. Cut through rem loops and trim ends evenly. Sew 5 Tassels evenly spaced to each end of scarf.
