water repellent "coating"
I've tried a lot of canvas panels over the years, and these are great, but I've run into a few packages (of 5) in the 11 x 14" where my water based acrylic paint is repelled by "something" on the surface. Out of the last 10 packs, maybe 2 had this issue. That's 10 canvases where I had to work very differently to deal with the paint not adhering. There shouldn't really be variation like this in a product. I now check the surface by spraying it with water before I start painting. The "coating" wipes off with a damp cloth. I'm really only reviewing this to let other people know to check before they start painting.

Great for painting and ease of framing
Enjoy these canvas boards for gifts as they ship well and don’t worry about being damaged. I was glad I saw these for sale online because Stonecrest location told me they were discontinued

Canvas is cut too big in the new packaging
For years, this was my go-to canvas, and I purchase about 3-4 packs each month. They recently changed the product from being a gold label to now a silver/platinum label, and each and every panel is now cut 1/16" larger than stated, in both length and width. While this may not seem like much of a variance, it is enough to prevent these from fitting into a frame whose opening is the same standard cut 8x10 or 11x14. Because I sell my art framed, this is a huge deal for me. I've been trying to buy up all of the older gold label products that I can locate at stores near me, but the stock is quickly being depleted. The price and the quality is still good, but the cut is inaccurate. I have reached out to Michael's customer service, informing them of this issue, believing they would want to address this with their supplier. But sadly, the response I received was simply a cut and paste reiteration of their return policy. Rather than making any attempt to retain a customer, I was told to take back the product I was
disappointed in. For a retailer who touts the "biggest selection of canvas" you'd think offering accurate sizing would be viewed as a matter of importance.
